~*~ Animal Breeds/Species ~*~ This MUCK is based in the Northwest Territory of Canada, the Yukon, during the late 1890s and early 1900s. This was when the Klondike Gold Rush was taking place, and it is in a rather harsh environment. Summers were barely that, and winters were formidable. Please realise that *not all* dog breeds were around at this time, nor would all of them survive in such harsh conditions easily at all. Keep in mind that the dogs in such areas would normally be the more thick-coated and long-haried breeds. Exceptions *might* (And that is stressed *might*) be made if you have a rather unique and interesting background story for your character, and act appropraitely to such a creature living in such a cold environment. Such as, perhaps the dog would be forced by its owner to wear sweaters or somesuch thing. If these exceptions are to be made, the character should be played accordingly. *If you wish to play a short-furred creature please contact a wizard.* Restriction to type of breed according to climate will not apply to wild animals living in the area at the time, of course. Also, purebred were rather rare in these areas, as the mushers were not interested in blood lines per se, but how well the animal could do its job. There were many mongrels and mutts around. Please abide by the decision of the wizzes should you be asked to pick another breed. The aim of this MUCK is to keep it realistic but fun, and we will try our hardest to provide or compromise if we can.
