~*~ Wolf Packs ~*~ How do you start a pack? A wolf pack is formed in the wild usually by an alpha pair and their pups, but also by lone wolves coming together for the protection and hunting benefits that having a pack provides. The best way to start a pack is to find another wolf to stroke a friendship with, then another, and another, and so on. This can be done through IC roleplay, or OOC negotiation. Not everyone can be an alpha unfortunately. It takes time, skill and dedication to keep the pack connected. *** You must fill out an application to become an alpha. This app can be found in the wolf pack room. If it is not there, or does not work, that likely means applications are currently closed. If you are approved, you can begin to work on building up your pack, and register it once you have the required members. The number of members you are required to have will depend on the current season of the muck. What does it mean to be registered? To be registered is to be allowed to build packlands, and be a formally recognized pack on the Wolf Pack list in the OOC Wolf Pack room. Unregistered packs must roam the territories of other wolves, or the unclaimed territories like the Silver Forest and the Ogilvie Mountains. What do you do once you are registered? First create your lands. Once your lands are fully desced (complete with succs, osuccs and odrops on exits) ask a wiz to link them. It's better if you have a map of your land, and have an idea of where you wish to link. Also, keep in mind that in the wild, packs to not get extraordinarily huge. 20 members is exceedingly large, and generally only found in places where prey is abundant and climes are fairer. That is certainly not so in the Yukon. Keep it reasonable. About pack positions. In packs there are one or two alphas, one or two betas (generally one), subordinates, and an omega. Alpha, Beta, and Omega are the only labelled positions. In RP it is not necessary to have an Omega unless you have a willing volunteer. Otherwise it is hard to find someone to play an Omega. In wolf packs, Alphas are generally the only mated pair. If there is another, rarely, it would be the betas. Other pairings in packs are not allowed by the alphas under most circumstances. However sometimes there are pair bonds that develop within the pack, they are just not breeding pairs. Alphas are almost always the ones to have pups, as this helps the chances of survival for the cubs. The goal of role play here is to have fun, but keep it realistic as well. These guidelines help keep the wilder part of the MUCK realistic for roleplay. Now, keep in mind this IS a MUCK. And it's not completely realistic. But the theme from the books was, which is why these guidelines are here. On MUCKs, Beta mated pairs of frequent, and ok, even for the betas to have pups. The guidelines are fairly flexible, but if you have a question, just ask! If you have any questions regarding wolves, wolf RP or packs, contact a wizard by page or MUCK mail. --Wizstaff
